We stay in a nice bed and breakfast type building that has 10 rooms and is run by a Christian organization in Havana.
You can fly from wherever you want but you will need to connect to the American Airline flight from Miami that all the group will use to fly to Havana. Pastor Paul will let those that sign up know which flight that will be. For the return to the USA we will fly out of Cuba on the same flight. Pastor Paul will let those that sign up know which flight that will be. Everyone on the trip needs to purchase their own ticket.
In-Cuba expenses such as room, meals, and travel. Also the required religious visa and insurance. If anything is left over it will be used for projects in Cuba.
Pastor Mark has suggested that the project financed by The Valley Church be used for a new church building in Havana.
In Cuba, we don’t perform construction labor since in most areas it is prohibited for foreigners to do so and because we have a greater purpose. Our purpose is to ENCOURAGE the pastors and churches by meeting them, hearing their stories, praying with them, taking them essential items that are unavailable in Cuba, and helping them with projects they couldn’t do without assistance. (Fore example, in Cuba a bag of cement costs about as much as the average pastor makes in a month.) We go to Cuba on what we call an “Encouragement Trip.”
On a typical day we would visit between 5 – 8 pastors at their churches so that we can encourage them, pray with them, hear their stories if there is time, give them a small offering, and leave gifts for them and others in their church. Sometimes the pastors have a small meal or refreshments for us. Sometimes they want to sing. It is unpredictable but the focus will be seeing how we can help them as they extend the kingdom of God. Most of the churches have missions where they hope to start a church. We will get to see some of them and to join with them in their ministry.
